June Shelton School & Evaluation Center enjoys the distinction of being the worlds largest independent school for bright children with learning differences. Founded in 1976, Shelton is dedicated to making a difference by serving and empowering the lives of students who learn differently. While the school is clearly the centerpiece of its mission, Shelton is more than a school. It encompasses three other major components, all open to the communitya speech and language therapy program, an evaluation center, and a teacher-training program. Shelton is actively involved with research and collaborates with major medical institutions in the Dallas area, including Childrens Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12. The Shelton School is accredited by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS).
Position Overview
Provide speech-language therapy at Shelton and area private schools.
General Responsibilities
  • Maintains good attendance. Because of the daily interaction with students and colleagues, attendance and punctuality are essential to the successful performance of this job.
  • Remediate speech and language disorders of the Shelton Clinic clients.
  • Maintain client records and files.
  • Consult with teachers and parents regarding progress of students served in therapy.
  • Write progress reports for Shelton school clients in November and May and for community clients as needed.
  • Write necessary correspondence such as insurance letters for clinic clients.
  • Participate in parent conferences to report progress of students served in therapy.
  • Assist with vision, hearing and speech screenings in various private school settings.
  • Maintain vision-screening certification as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and individual meetings with the Director.
  • Attend in-service programs in language related areas including reading, writing and spelling.
  • Maintain CEU requirements for state licensure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must have Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and licensed as a speech language pathologist in the state of Texas.
  • Must have at least three years experience in schools or with pediatric population, five years preferred.
  • Must be sensitive to confidentiality of school files, programs, and students files.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, a self-starter, and motivated.
  • Ability to work at times with limited supervision.
  • Experience working with children with learning differences is preferred.
  • Must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
