Purpose: The Accounting Manager will assist with the financial reporting and accounting responsibilities and administration of the day-to-day operations of the accounting function, apply proper accounting treatment, follow appropriate internal controls, assist in the accounting for reconciliations, analyze and interpret financial results and perform special projects as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting; CPA or candidate is required
Public accounting experience is preferred
5+ years of accounting experience
Sound knowledge and understanding of financial reporting and the relationship between the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement
Previous school and/or nonprofit accounting experience preferred; Knowledge of fund accounting desired
Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations, particularly within a nonprofit setting
Ability to manage multiple functions, activities, and projects; prioritize duties to ensure timely completion
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment
Microsoft Office Suite experience required including strong Excel skills
An inquisitive mindset and the ability to assess/initiate things independently

Essential Functions:
Attendance and punctuality are essential to the successful performance of this job
Assist in the creation of a workplace environment that aligns best business practices with employee advocacy
Manage the day-to-day general ledger accounting activities and projects
Responsible for period-end close procedures for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts for multi-entities in an accurate and timely manner
Prepare and review various general ledger entries and reconciliations as part of managing month-end processes. Including, but not limited to: revenue streams, investments, fixed assets and contributions.
Review, monitor and reconcile with development monthly annual fund and capital campaign donations for proper GAAP reporting
Assist Controller with preparation of monthly financial reporting & analysis package
Assist Controller with tuition assistance application and award process
Assist Controller with preparation of audit, tax and other external reporting requirements, including interfacing with outside auditors
Manage Form 990 preparation process for 3 entities
Identify opportunities to automate general ledger impacting activities
Identify ways to improve accounting processes
Monthly bank and investment account reconciliations
Support other functions of the accounting department as needed
Provide other accounting and income statement guidance for School departments and other business segments
Works well with Business Office and HR department with a team attitude
Is interested in succession planning - eventually leading to the Controller and/or CFO position
