About June Shelton School                          
June Shelton School & Evaluation Center enjoys the distinction of being the worlds largest independent school for bright children with learning differences. Founded in 1976, Shelton is dedicated to making a difference by serving and empowering the lives of students who learn differently. While the school is clearly the centerpiece of its mission, Shelton is more than a school. It encompasses three other major components, all open to the communitya speech and language therapy program, an evaluation center, and a teacher-training program.  Shelton is actively involved with research and collaborates with major medical institutions in the Dallas area, including Childrens Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12. The Shelton School is accredited by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS).

Position Overview
To provide speech/language therapy services to small groups of Shelton students.

Qualifications
  • Master of Science or Arts (MS/MA) required.
  • Currently licensed as a speech-language pathologist in the state of Texas; holds Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Knowledge of educating students with learning differences.
  • Must have basic computer skills and technology including Google Suite.
  • Must be sensitive to the confidentiality of school files, programs, and student information.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, motivation, and be a self-starter.
  • Must have a positive attitude, be flexible, and have strong interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Functions
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential to the successful performance of this job. 
  • Serve as an instructional team member for each student, in coordination with the division head, for parent conferences, phone calls, and other appropriate interactions.
  • Assess speech and language, voice, fluency, and social communication skills and schedule group services for Shelton students.
  • Remediate speech and language, voice, fluency, and social communication disorders of the Shelton students.
  • Consult with teachers regarding the progress of students served in speech and language therapy.
  • Write progress and testing reports for Shelton students.
  • Participate in parent conferences and student staff meetings to report progress of students served in speech and language therapy.
  • Assist in staff development in-service programs on speech and language areas.
  • Use collaborative teaching strategies in the classrooms to improve the speech and language skills of Shelton students.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with speech-language pathologist team members.
  • Adjust and adapt to working across divisions as needed due to changing caseload needs from year to year.
  • Assist the Shelton School as needed with lunchroom/carpool supervision as well as classroom/office coverage.
  • Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor or school administration.
